Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces 33-year-old Deshawn Whims of no permanent address has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 2 ½ years in prison followed by 2 years of post-release supervision.

On April 12, 2018, members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at an apartment in Bennett Village Terrace in the City of Buffalo. In the basement of the apartment, investigators found a duffle bag containing 42 pounds of marijuana packaged in freezer bags.

Last month, a jury found Whims guilty, as charged, on one count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the First Degree, a Class “C” felony. The defendant was convicted on the only charge in the indictment against him.

DA Flynn commends members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and the Department of Homeland Security for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Paul J. Williams, III, Chief of the DA’s Narcotics Unit, and Assistant District Attorney Gina M. Gramaglia of the DA’s Justice Courts.
