Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that a 16-year-old male and three 17-year-old males from Buffalo have been arraigned before Youth Part Judge Kelly Brinkworth on one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (Class “D” felony) and one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor).

It is alleged that on Monday, May 2, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Cheektowaga Police observed a stolen vehicle being driven by one of the adolescent offenders in the area of Eggert and Sugar roads. It is further alleged that the vehicle, suspected to have been used in the commission of a larceny that occurred on Walden Avenue, was reported stolen to the Buffalo Police Department on April 17, 2022.

Cheektowaga Police notified the Buffalo Police Department to assist in the investigation as the vehicle was being driven into city limits. When a Buffalo Police officer approached the parked vehicle on Edison Avenue, the driver allegedly put the vehicle into reverse, crashed into an unmarked Cheektowaga Police vehicle and drove away. The driver and three passengers were taken into custody after a brief pursuit that ended in a crash on Langfield Avenue near Suffolk Street. Two of the four adolescent offenders were taken to ECMC with minor injuries.

The four adolescent offenders are scheduled to return on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. for further proceedings. All were released under supervision.

DA Flynn commends the Cheektowaga Police Department and the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this ongoing investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joelle M. Marino of the Community Prosecution and Training Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
