Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 36-year-old Timothy Kler of Town of Tonawanda has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison.

Between January 1, 2017 and September 18, 2017, the defendant embezzled $19,486.01 while serving as treasurer of the River Road Volunteer Fire Company. The defendant pocketed cash from fundraisers and forged numerous checks.

Kler pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, the highest charge in the indictment, in April 2018.

The defendant signed a confession of judgment and will be required to pay back $14,486.01 in restitution.

Assistant District Attorney Louis C. Mussari of the DA’s Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau prosecuted the case.
