Town of Tonawanda Man Found Guilty of the Murder of His Girlfriend

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that a jury has found 51-year-old Mario Turner, Sr. of Town of Tonawanda guilty, as charged, of one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-1” felony. He was convicted following a nearly two week trial. 

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at approximately 8 p.m., the defendant fatally shot 49-year-old Renee Taschetta at their home on Dumas Place in the Town of Tonawanda.

Turner faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail.

DA Flynn commends Det. Capt. Joseph Fennell and Det. Thomas Moore Town of Tonawanda Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Morgan of the DA’s Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Colin X. Fitzgerald of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
