Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 24-year-old Dalton O. Edge, Jr., and 24-year-old Kyle M. Mickens, both of Buffalo, were arraigned on Monday morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on an indictment charging them with the following offenses:

  • One count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felony)
  • Two counts of Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies)
  • One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony)

It is alleged that on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 2:04 a.m., the defendants, while acting in concert with one another with the intent to cause the death of another person, fired multiple shots from illegal guns into a moving vehicle on the 400 block of Pearl Street in the City of Buffalo. Investigators allegedly recovered 18 fired cartridge casings from the scene.

One person inside of the vehicle was injured by gunfire. The victim, a 25-year-old woman who was in the front passenger seat, was treated at ECMC for serious physical injuries to her leg.

Another victim, a 23-year-old man who was on the opposite side of the street, was also injured by gunfire. He was taken by ambulance to ECMC to be threated for a gunshot wound to his hip.

Mickens and Edge are scheduled to return on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. Both defendants continue to remain held without bail.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Intelligence Unit and Special Operations Unit as well as the Gun Violence Unit for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Major Crimes Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
