Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 24-year-old Jairus J. Kedzierski of West Seneca was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class “E” felony).

It is alleged that on Friday, July 29, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the defendant stabbed the victim multiple times during a physical altercation on Edson Street in the Town of West Seneca. The fight ensued following an allegation that the defendant attempted to sexually abuse a female victim earlier that evening. The victim, 29-year-old Maurice G. Kidd, Jr., was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was pronounced dead.

It is further alleged that earlier on the evening of July 29, 2022, the defendant attempted to subject a female victim to sexual contact by forcible compulsion at a residence on Edson Street.

Kedzierski is scheduled to return on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He continues to be held without bail.

If convicted of all charges, Kedzierski faces a maximum sentence of 29 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the West Seneca Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
