Legislator Dixon joins Assemblyman Kearns, Lackawanna officials to advocate for expedited foreclosure proceedings

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon joined Assemblyman Michael Kearns, Lackawanna Mayor Geoff Szymanski, Lackawanna Councilmember Joe Jerge, representatives from the Western New York Law Center, and other supporters to push for changes in banks foreclosure procedures to expedite the process and greatly reduce the number of vacant properties, often referred to as “Zombie Homes,” because of their distressed condition. The group gathered at 186 South Shore Blvd., in the City of Lackawanna on Oct. 13 for the ninth stop in Assemblyman Kearns’ “bank shaming tour.”

Legislator Dixon announces comment period open for phase 3 of remediation plan at Bethlehem Steel

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon wants all residents to be aware that the New York State Department of Environment Conservation (DEC) recently opened the comment period on a plan to remediate another section of brownfield on the former Bethlehem Steel site.

Legislator Dixon announces that Erie County recognizes October 2015 as Dysautonomia Awareness Month

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon presented a proclamation to Hamburg resident Laura Seil Ruszczyk, announcing that Erie County has designated October 2015 as Dysautonomia Awareness Month. Ruszczyk, who was diagnosed with the medical condition five years ago, has been working with Dysautonomia International to raise awareness of this disorder, which impacts more than 70 million people worldwide. Ruszczyk is currently writing a book on this subject. People of any age, gender or race can suffer from dysautonomia and there is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time. 

Sheriff’s Week brings to light the many components of this critical county service

Recently, the Erie County Legislature honored the Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Timothy Howard during New York State Sheriff’s Week – Sept. 14-18, 2015 – in recognition of the dedication, sacrifice and hard work shown by all those who make up this office.  

Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Event - Sept. 26

The Erie County Legislature Majority Caucus announces that a Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at various sites throughout the county. Residents are welcome to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medications, syringes, inhalers, liquids, ointments, patches, etc. However, products that contain mercury or radioactive materials will not be accepted.
