ERIE COUNTY ENVIRONMENT AND PLANNING
**PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT – AWAITING EXAM**
TITLE OF POSITION: Director of Business Assistance
LOCATION: 95 Franklin Street, Buffalo, NY
SALARY: $68,956 – $90,430
*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Works with areas firms, coordinates business assistance efforts and packages of financial assistance to local companies; Provides comprehensive planning coordination to assist private firms in site planning and acquisition, SEQR Review and other activities related to business expansion and job creation and retention; Administers County business assistance programs; Assists the Erie County Industrial Development Agency regarding Regional Development Corporation job compliance and administration of County owned railroad lines; Secures financing for implementation of County business development projects through State and Federal grants as well as municipal capital and operating budgets; Manages consultant and contractor processes to implement special projects including selection, development of scope of services, contract negotiation and monitoring of progress; Assists on representing the County in dealings with other economic development agencies; Performs duties associated with energy assistance to companies; Assists in development of transportation policies, and represents the County in matters pertaining to airports, railroads, border crossings and other transportation issues which have an economic development impact; Advises the County administration on economic development policies and programs.
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's degree majoring in urban and regional planning, business or public administration, environmental studies, political science, municipal government, economics, geography, architecture or landscape architecture, and four (4) years of experience in City, County or Regional planning; at least two (2) years of which included business assistance and/or economic development responsibilities. NOTE 1: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Business or Public Administration or Economics may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience above. NOTE 2: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
