TOWN OF TONAWANDA
The Town of Tonawanda seeks an individual experienced in public sector management directing and supervising a community recreation program, including the effective use of community recreation facilities and management of parks and park facilities. It includes, but is not limited to, responsibility for planning, implementing and managing programs suitable to the interests and needs of the community. This work also includes the planning for and utilization of town facilities and requires leadership, supervision and coordination of the entire Department.
*Please note that this position is a competitive civil service title and will require a civil service examination in the future. After the exam, selection for permanent appointment(s) will be made from reachable candidate(s) on the eligible list according to the NYS Civil Service Rule of Three.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Director of Recreation 1:
A.) Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master's degree in recreation or allied field, and one (1) year of recreation of experience in a public or private organization
or public agency; OR
B.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or N.Y. State registered four (4) year college or university including major specialization in recreation or allied field, and two (2) years of recreation experience in a private organization or public agency; OR
C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
The successful candidate must possess strong administrative and supervisory skills.
Salary commensurate with experience.
