Residence Requirements:
THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.
Examples of Duties:
A Director of Diversity and Inclusion developing and implementing the Diversity and Inclusion Program and strategic plan at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;
Administers the Diversity and Inclusion Program at ECMCC;
Develops, implements and communicates a diversity strategic plan;
Researches and incorporates existing diversity initiatives into diversity strategic plan; amends existing initiatives to conform with and include in strategic plan;
Serves as a resource to incorporate diversity and inclusion subject matter into ECMCC programs, policies and procedures;
Collaborates with Human Resources and hiring managers to develop methods to improve diversity recruitment and retention;
Addresses and investigates matters and complaints involving diversity issues or concerns;
Collaborates with all levels of management and supervision to develop diversity and inclusion competencies;
Oversees the development and implementation of diversity training programs;
Develops benchmarks and evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of strategic plan/Program components; evaluates strategic plan/Program components;
Collaborates with senior management in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance relations with diverse constituencies;
Represents ECMCC at governmental and community events, attends meetings and serves on committees as required.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:
A.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s Degree and five (5) years of experience in Human Resources, of which included three (3) years of professional* human resources experience (see Note 1.) and one (1) year of diversity programming or community outreach experience; or:
B.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree seven (7) years of experience in Human Resources of which included three (3) years of professional* human resources experience (see Note 1.) and one (1) year of diversity programming or community outreach experience; or:
C.) An equivalent combination of experience and training as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Eligibility for a Certificate in Diversity Management in Health Care (CDM) as issued by the Institute for Diversity in Health Management at time of application; Completion of Certificate in CDM at time of Permanent appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

1. *Professional experience is experience which requires specialized and theoretical knowledge usually acquired through college education or through that experience and other training which provides comparable knowledge. Professional experience in general involves independence of action and personal responsibility for actions.
2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
3. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:
SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:
1. Preparing written material
These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences.
2. Public personnel administration
These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices used in applying New York State, federal, and local laws, rules, and policies to situations encountered in planning and executing the personnel functions in a government agency. Questions may cover such areas as recruitment, selection, and placement; position classification; performance evaluation; and employee relations.
3. Public contact principles and practices
These questions test for knowledge of techniques used to interact with other people, to gather and present information, and to provide assistance, advice, and effective customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Questions will cover such topics as understanding and responding to people with diverse needs, perspectives, personalities, and levels of familiarity with agency operations, as well as acting in a way that both serves the public and reflects well on your agency.
4. Recruitment, selection and placement
These questions test for knowledge of planning and implementing programs to hire employees for public sector titles and occupational fields. Questions may cover such areas as determining personnel needs; analyzing job content; ordering examinations; recruitment; and interviewing.
5. Supervision
These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.
NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: Unless otherwise noted, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
