Residence Requirements: RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT. At present there is one vacancy at the Erie County Division of Sewerage Management.

Examples of Duties:

An Electronic Instrumentation Mechanic is responsibility for installing, repairing and maintaining various types of electronic equipment in a sewage treatment facility;

Maintains and repairs a variety of electronic equipment and instruments found in a sewage treatment facility;

Assists in the inventory of all equipment;

Maintains and repairs various types of tools or equipment for use in electrical technology testing;

Tests new equipment for accuracy in operation and makes adjustment where necessary;

Diagnoses problems in electronic and electrical circuits and repairs;

Assembles purchased equipment and sets in place;

Tests new equipment for accuracy in operation and adjusts and/or calibrates;

Maintains inventory of equipment and tools and requisitions supplies as required;

Keeps abreast of latest developments in the field of electronics;

Maintains and repairs various types of tools and equipment for use in water pollution control.

Utilizes computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet and database applications;

Performs data entry.

Qualifications:

 Candidates must meet one of the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written test:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university, majoring in Electronics, and two years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; or:

B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; or:

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License at time of appointment.

Notes: 1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements. 2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Subjects of Examination: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas: 1. Basic Electronics, Including Electrical And Electronic Circuitry, Schematics And Wiring Diagrams: These questions test for knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices involved in basic electronics, including electrical and electronic circuitry, schematics, and wiring diagrams; and may include such areas as the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance; the identification and function of circuit and solid state components; and the ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics and wiring diagrams. 2. Use Of Electronic Test Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the use of electronic test equipment, including identification and proper selection of electronic test equipment. 3. Repair, Maintenance, And Operating Characteristics Of Electronic Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the operating characteristics, proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment. 4. Operation, Maintenance & Repair Of Equipment Used In Instrumentation, Including Meters, Sensors, Indicators, Recorders And Data Acquisition Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used in electronic instrumentation, including meters, sensors, indicators, recorders, and data acquisition equipment. Topics covered will include equipment identification, selection, measurement, maintenance, and data interpretation. NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: Unless otherwise noted, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
