Residence Requirements:
THIS EXAMINATION IS OPEN TO ALL QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE ERIE COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER CORPORATION. At present there is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.
The eligible list resulting from this examination will not supersede currently existing promotional eligible lists for this title, if any. The duration of all promotional eligible lists is four years from date of establishment unless otherwise indicated.
Examples of Duties:
An Expediter ensures that products and supplies are shipped and received in a time-sensitive manner for the Materials Management Department the Erie County Medical Center;
Collaborates with vendors to expedite orders ensuring timely delivery;
Processes purchase requisitions as per distributor agreements;
Works collaboratively with the Buyers and Junior Buyers to resolve any outstanding issues in the procurement process;
Reviews and conducts a follow-up process on open purchase orders to minimize shipment delays and shortages of purchased products;
Contacts vendors to obtain status updates of open orders and communicates need dates;
Creates, maintains and publishes product expediting logs;
Reviews availability of products from other stock locations and orders to ensure demands are fulfilled in a timely manner;
Collaborates with department supervisors to determine risk of late arrival of products and alternate solutions;
Develops strategies for problem identifications and resolution;
Identifies potential problems and takes action to avoid or minimize impact;
Informs departmental supervisors and appropriate buyer of urgent material status situations;
Ensures the accurate completion of daily reporting;
Assists and trains in various facets of the purchasing process;
Files required hard-copy documents according to department procedure;
Researches documents for specific information and provides reports;
Opens, sorts and distributes department mail;
Participates in meetings.
Qualifications:
QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE FOR TAKING THE TEST: Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class and must be serving and have served continuously on a permanent or contingent permanent basis in the competitive class for 12 months immediately preceding the date of the written test in a Clerical position Job Group IV, V, VI or VII plus the following:
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree and three years of clerical experience in a materials management setting which included the utilization of automated purchasing systems; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as set by the limits of (A) and (B).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be able to a pass a keyboarding examination involving Excel spreadsheets and the creation of a PDF document.
All subsequent transcripts must be submitted at time of interview.

NOTES: 1. * Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements. 2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Subjects of Examination:
Subjects of examination: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:
1. Arithmetic computation with calculator
These questions test for the ability to use a calculator to do basic computations. Questions will involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may also be asked to calculate averages, to use percents, and to round an answer to the nearest whole number.You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone.
2. Keeping simple inventory records
These questions test for the ability to follow instructions in keeping simple inventory records of different materials received and distributed from a central location. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide will be required. You may have to compute total costs from quantities (number of units) and cost or price per unit. Knowledge of specific record keeping systems and techniques will not be needed.
3. Name and number checking
These questions test for the ability to distinguish between sets of words, letters, and/or numbers that are almost exactly alike. Material is usually presented in two or three columns, and you will have to determine how the entry in the first column compares with the entry in the second column and possibly the third. You will be instructed to mark your answers according to a designated code provided in the directions.
NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: It is recommended that candidates use a quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculator. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
INFORMATION FOR PROMOTION CANDIDATES
Unless otherwise indicated, the eligible list resulting from this examination will have a duration of four years and will not supersede existing promotional lists, if any.
RATINGS REQUIRED: Test is rated on a scale of 100 with a passing mark at 70. Test instructions may further divide the tests into parts and set minimum standards for each part.
Points will be added to scores of candidates who achieve a passing mark as follows: Seniority: For each year of service in the classified service:
