Residence Requirements: RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT. There is one current vacancy at the Erie County Water Authority.

Examples of Duties: An Assistant Instrumentation-Electrical and Electronics Technician assists in the maintenance and repair of the electronics, electrical (480 volt or less) and electric mechanical equipment used in the operation of large potable water systems, which includes two water treatment plants, booster pumping stations, reservoirs and storage tanks; Assists in and performs routine maintenance, repair, and calibration procedures as required; Assists in routine maintenance work on electrical motor control equipment (480 volt or less) under direct supervision; Assists in the installation, performs maintenance and calibration of instrumentation equipment such as flow meters, level and pressure sensors, transmitters, receivers, indicating recorders and related audio tone equipment; Assists in diagnostics, repair, and calibration of fiber plant equipment such as chemical pacing systems, automated filter consoles, automatic valve controls, wastewater process systems and related plant equipment; Assists in the inventory of equipment, tools and instruments; Assembles new equipment and readies for testing by technician; Disassembles and assembles equipment, cleans and readies assembles for adjusting and calibrating; Does routine lubricating of instruments; Does routine pipework as associated with instrumentation.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written test:

A.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate's degree in the electronics field and one year of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; OR

B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; OR

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements. 2. Your degree and/or col1ege credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Subjects of Examination:

A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:

1. Basic Electronics, Including Electrical And Electronic Circuitry, Schematics And Wiring Diagrams: These questions test for knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices involved in basic electronics, including electrical and electronic circuitry, schematics, and wiring diagrams; and may include such areas as the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance; the identification and function of circuit and solid state components; and the ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.

2. Use Of Electronic Test Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the use of electronic test equipment, including identification and proper selection of electronic test equipment.

3. Repair, Maintenance, And Operating Characteristics Of Electronic Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the operating characteristics, proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment.

4. Operation, Maintenance & Repair Of Equipment Used In Instrumentation, Including Meters, Sensors, Indicators, Recorders And Data Acquisition Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used in electronic instrumentation, including meters, sensors, indicators, recorders, and data acquisition equipment. Topics covered will include equipment identification, selection, measurement, maintenance, and data interpretation.

Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.
