Residence Requirements:

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION.  There is one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. 

Examples of Duties:

Charge Nurse - Ambulatory Care Services assists with the direction, coordination and supervision of professional and non-professional staff in the Ambulatory Care Services at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation including the Cleve-Hill Family Health Center;

CLINICAL:

Assists in monitoring and ensuring that established standards of care are utilized, including but not limited to assessment, health teaching, medication reconciliation, and discharge planning;

Assists in monitoring the maintenance of safety standards for all customers;

Assists in identify customer problems and seeking resolutions;

Communicates with physicians, higher-ranking nurses and other staff regarding the needs of customers;

Serves as a liaison between patients, family, physicians and other members of the health care team;

Monitors staff regarding documentation as required;

Participates in nursing care.

NON-CLINICAL:

Assists with assignments according to departmental standards;

Reinforces cost-effective utilization of personnel and supplies;

Supports and participates in quality improvement process;

Participates in evaluation of staff performance and the orientation of new staff;

Reports on all clinical and operational activities to higher-ranking nurse and/or Vice President of Ambulatory Services;

Communicates immediate concerns related to staff performance issues, patient and physician concerns or other management issues to the higher-ranking nurse;

Ensures staff attends in-services as scheduled;

Assists with scheduling;

Contributes to the formulation of area goals and objectives;

Maintains knowledge of new and current skills and trends in nursing.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before October 25, 2017:

A.     Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and one year of professional nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting*; or

B.     Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, one year of which was in an ambulatory care setting*.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support

NOTES1. *Ambulatory care settings are health care clinician offices, outpatient clinics, community health centers, emergency or urgent care centers or ambulatory surgery centers. 2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements. 3. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION:  The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.  You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended.  You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.  Also include a copy of your professional license.  Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each.  Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor.  Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
