Residence Requirements:

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT. There is one present vacancy at the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning-Division of Sewerage mManagement.

Examples of Duties:

A Coordinator Of Sewer District Operations plans, supervises and coordinates technical, administrative and clerical operations within the Division of Sewerage Management relating to the management of the Division’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) in the operation of the Erie County sewer districts; 

Supervises the implementation and operation of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS);

Supervises and coordinates the creation and planning of CMMS maintenance plans;

Supervises lower level technical and clerical staff;

Provide CMMS subject matter expertise to department heads and ensure best practices are adhered to:

Perform CMMS system tests and evaluation after upgrades;

Develops and updates CMMS procedures, functional documentation, and user training materials;

Manages training and support to all maintenance personnel to improve job performance;

Prepares and provides information regarding work orders, problem areas and maintenance requirements based on data in CMMS system for the Sewer District Manager, Chief Treatment Plant Supervisor and other higher ranking supervisors for review, discussion and evaluation;

Monitors and assists in management of output for Receiving and Inventory Control according to established policies, procedures and guidelines;

Provides information regarding personnel costs, maintenance costs and inventory for analyses in annual budget preparation;

Creates and maintains master data required to support SAP Plant Maintenance Process;

Assists in report preparation for various operational conditions and submits same to higher ranking supervisors for approval;

Audits and assesses validity in CMS and recommend system and/or business process changes to improve data integrity.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of experience in CMMS Plant Maintenance related to sewerage system operations, sewerage system maintenance, or wastewater treatment plant operations, at least two (2) years of which were in a supervisory capacity; or

B) Completion of minimum of 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited or N.Y.S. registered college or university and six (6) years of experience in CMMS Plant Maintenance related to sewerage system operations, sewerage system maintenance, or wastewater treatment plant operations, at least two (2) years of which were in a supervisory capacity; or

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

Notes:

1. *A supervisory position is defined as a position in which supervision was a major responsibility of the job. Occasional or partial supervision of work crew is not acceptable supervisory experience.

2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

3. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

Subjects of Examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.

Preparing written material
These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences.

Sanitary and storm sewer systems
These questions test for knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of sewer and storm drainage lines, catch basins, and related appurtenances.

Understanding and interpreting technical information and construction and site plans
These questions test for the ability to read, analyze, and perform computations based on written technical presentations and technical drawings related to water and/or sewer line systems. All the information needed to answer the questions will be presented in the written material and/or drawings.

Supervision
These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES:  It is recommended that candidates use a quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculator.  Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.  You may not bring books or other reference materials.
