Residence Requirements: THIS EXAMINATION IS OPEN TO ALL QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE ERIE COUNTY DIVISION OF SUPPORT SERVICES. At present there is one vacancy. The eligible list resulting from this examination will not supersede currently existing promotional eligible lists for this title, if any. The duration of all promotional eligible lists is four years from date of establishment unless otherwise indicated.

Examples of Duties:

A Coordinator of Support Services coordinates and supervises the delivery of a variety of operational support services to County departments, institutions and agencies; Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the delivery of centralized operational support services to County departments and agencies; Develops schedules for work to be performed and maintains records of all work completed; Coordinates printing division, determining the nature of the work to be done and availability of materials, priority and completion date of jobs, and reviews schedules and work orders to eliminate the duplication of machine setups; Coordinates and schedules the non-camera ready work load between the graphics division and printing division with consideration to priority, availability of equipment and personnel, and established completion dates; Supervises print shop personnel, determines the progress of work orders; the quality of completed work; schedules reprints as required; monitors and analyzes the cost of work; requisitions all necessary materials for production operations and implements production improvement methods; Reviews with supervisor time schedules to be used in future work, procedures for inventory and forms control, compiles reports on progress of work, backlogs and production delays caused by equipment failure, material shortage or personnel deficiency; Provides consultation services to all County departments regarding cost effectiveness and production efficiency in forms design and reproduction; advises departments of printing needs, problems, schedules and costs; Establishes costs for printing and duplicating services; monitors billing procedures and audits records of revenues received for services; complies an operating budget for the printing division and governs the expenditure of the budget allocation throughout the fiscal year; Provides scheduling and administration assistance to other divisions within the department to insure the efficient and cost effective delivery of services; Attends meetings on operational support services, including new procedure, equipment or programs to be developed; Maintains direct supervision over all centralized services divisions to insure coordination and timely deliveries of services.

Qualifications:

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE FOR TAKING THE TEST: Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class and must be serving and have served continuously on a permanent or contingent permanent basis in the competitive class for 12 months immediately preceding the date of the written test in the position of Job Group 8, 9, 10, or 11 plus candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Graphics, Design, Communications or a related field and six years of experience in the supervision of operational support services; or: B) Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and eight years of experience in the supervision of operational support services; or: C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

Notes: NOTES: 1. Experience in operational support services would include such things as the purchase or provision of telephone and communication services; microfilming and record storage and retention; mailroom services; purchase and maintenance of office equipment; coordinating the printing of various forms, including all facets of production from pre-graphics to finished product, including scheduling of work to be completed and ordering of supplies and other services vital to effective organization operations. 2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements. 3. Your degree and/or col1ege credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas: 1. Advising And Interacting With Others: These questions test for the ability to interact with other people, to gather and present information, and to provide assistance and advice in a courteous and professional manner. 2. Principles And Practices Of Publication Production: These questions test for knowledge of the basic principles, practices and terminology related to the production of printed materials. Topics may include size, format, layout, paper and ink, reproduction methods, and design of text and graphics. 3. Preparation And Utilization Of Graphics: These questions test for knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology, and equipment related to preparing graphic materials for print or display. Questions may cover such aspects as choosing graphic materials, producing and manipulating hand-drawn or computer-generated illustrative materials, and making choices regarding graphic layout and design. 4. Preparing Copy For Printing/Reproduction: These questions test for knowledge of the principles, practices, and terminology related to the preparation of copy for print or display. Topics may include such aspects as entering text using a computer or composing machine, making choices regarding copy layout and design, and following copy specifications and guidelines.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES:  Unless otherwise noted, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators.  Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.  You may not bring books or other reference materials.

RATINGS REQUIRED:  Test is rated on a scale of 100 with a passing mark at 70.  Test instructions may further divide the tests into parts and set minimum standards for each part.
