Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

Examples of Duties:

A Director of Medical-Dental Staff Services plans, coordinates and directs the  operations and non-clinical staff of the Medical-Dental Staff Services Office at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Oversees the activities and non-clinical personnel under the jurisdiction of the Medical-Dental Staff Services Office;

Develops, implements and monitors annual budget, goals and objectives and procedures for competency-based credentialing;

Assists the Medical Director (ECMCC) in developing, implementing and administering ECMCC Medical-Dental Staff By-Laws and related policies as appropriate;

Serves as a resource on accreditation and regulatory issues for medical-dental staff and clinical departments to ensure medical services are provided in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and accreditation standards;

Coordinates logistics of the interview and selection process of clinical and non-clinical medical-dental staff candidates;

Develops and coordinates the on-boarding and orientation for new clinical and non-clinical medical-dental staff; Coordinates credentialing process on behalf of Medical Director (ECMCC) and chair of credentials committee to include quality monitoring, scheduling of meetings, maintenance of meeting minutes and forms in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and accreditation standards;

Manages the credentialing, regulatory and accreditation survey processes and oversees non-clinical staff involved in compiling survey information;

Serves as a liaison with medical-dental affiliates and business partners to monitor compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards as they apply to the medical-dental staff and optimal use of the credentialing program;

Provides administrative support to the officers of the medical-dental staff; 

Partners with the office staff of the medical director on shared initiatives of clinical staff communication, education and customer service

Coordinates with patient safety staff to ensure documentation of staff personnel information, such as physician performance measures and continuing medical education utilized in evaluation for reappointment;

Coordinates performance evaluation process, team coaching and discipline processes for Medical-Dental Staff Services staff;

Prepares, distributes and presents reports upon request; 

Performs departmental special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree and three (3) years of experience in medical staff services (*See Note 1) supervision or accreditation/regulatory medical staff committee functions; or:

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree and five (5) years of experience in medical staff services (*See Note 1) supervision or accreditation/regulatory medical staff committee functions; or:

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as set by the limits of (A) and (B). 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession and maintenance of certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) for Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) within five (5) years of appointment. 

Notes:

1. *Medical-Dental Staff Services experience includes credentialing and competency assessment, program development, peer review, ensuring quality patient care, developing education/orientation programs for medical staff and working with the Joint Commission accreditation standards related to the function and regulatory requirements of Medical Staff committees.

2. Possession of certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services for Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentials Specialist (CPCS) may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience. 

3. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

4. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

Subjects of Examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.

Preparing written material
These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences.

Understanding and interpreting written material
These questions test for the ability to understand and interpret written material. You will be presented with brief reading passages and will be asked questions about the passages. You should base your answers to the questions only on what is presented in the passages and not on what you may happen to know about the topic.

Understanding and interpreting tabular material
These questions test your ability to understand, analyze, and use the internal logic of data presented in tabular form. You may be asked to perform tasks such as completing tables, drawing conclusions from them, analyzing data trends or interrelationships, and revising or combining data sets. The concepts of rate, ratio, and proportion are tested. Mathematical operations are simple, and computational speed is not a major factor in the test. You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone.

Administrative supervision
These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in directing the activities of a large subordinate staff, including subordinate supervisors. Questions relate to the
personal interactions between an upper level supervisor and his/her subordinate supervisors in the accomplishment of objectives. These questions cover such areas as assigning work to and coordinating the activities of several units, establishing and guiding staff development programs, evaluating the performance of subordinate supervisors, and maintaining relationships with other organizational sections.

Administration
These questions test for knowledge of the managerial functions involved in directing an organization or an organizational segment. These questions cover such areas as: developing objectives and formulating policies; making decisions based on the context of the administrator's position and authority; forecasting and planning; organizing; developing personnel; coordinating and informing; guiding and leading; testing and evaluating; and budgeting.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: Unless otherwise noted, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
