Residence Requirements:

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS:  THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIRMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION.  At present there is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.  

Examples of Duties:

An Electroencephalograph - Special Procedures Technician performs standard and complex electrophysiological recordings at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation; 

Performs standard EEG recording (awake and sleep, electrocerebral inactivity evaluations) using digital EEG or analogy equipment;

Prepares patient for testing by instructing them on how to relax and cooperate for effective results; explains recording procedure;

Summarizes the patient’s neurologic status and clinical history from the chart, patient, family member or caregiver;

Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observation and EEG findings;

Provides appropriate patient care and details observations of clinical manifestations during seizure and other patient emergency situations;

Records computer-averaged electrical responses to visual, auditory, or somatosenory stimuli (evoked potentials); determines during averaging that recordings are of adequate technical quality;

Performs ambulatory EEG recording;

Carries out EEG or evoked potential monitoring procedures during surgery;

Ensures electrical safety of the patient at all times;

Keeps equipment in clean operating condition; performs maintenance and minor repairs of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major repairs;

Participates in conferences, technical meetings and other educational activities;

Serves as in-service instructor for junior staff, technologist trainees.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before July 31, 2017:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:

A) Possession of a certification as an Evoked Potential Technologist issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist; or

B) Possession of a certification as an EEG Technologist issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist; or:

C) Possession of a certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists and one (1) year of experience performing sleep studies; or:

D) One (1) year of experience as an EEG Technologist, including evoked potential studies.

Notes:

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination. 

 

Subjects of Examination:

Scope of the Examination:  There will be no written or oral test for this examination.  If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of your training and experience against the duties of the position being tested. 

Candidates must first complete an examination application and return it to the Erie County Department of Personnel on or before the last filing date of July 31, 2017

Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire. 

The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be available on September 1, 2017 and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire between September 1, 2017, and midnight September 30, 2017.*

NOTE:  Candidates will not be able to claim any credit for training or experience gained after the application filing deadline of July 31, 2017.  Candidates who fail to submit a questionnaire by midnight, September 30, 2017, will not receive a rating.
