Residence Requirements: THIS EXAMINATION IS OPEN TO ALL QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE ERIE COUNTY DIVISION OF SEWERAGE MANAGEMENT. At present there is one vacancy at the Erie County Division of Sewerage Management. The eligible list resulting from this examination will not supersede currently existing promotional eligible lists for this title, if any. The duration of all promotional eligible lists is four years from date of establishment unless otherwise indicated.

Examples of Duties: An Electronics Technician-Wastewater Facilities designs, develops, operates and maintains scientific, electronic and other electrical equipment used at wastewater treatment plants and pump stations; Supervises, maintains and repairs such machines as generators, motors, voltmeters, oscillators, digital computer trainers, logic simulator demonstrators, FSK Tone Equipment, radio transmission equipment, variable and constant speed pump drive controllers, flow meters, recorders, process controllers, industrial controls and computers; Assists the department head in the inventory of all equipment; Supervises, designs, fabricates and assembles various types of tools or equipment for use in electrical technology testing; Tests new equipment for accuracy in operation and makes adjustment where necessary; Diagnoses problems in electronic and electrical circuits and repairs; Assembles purchased equipment and sets in place; Tests new equipment for accuracy in operation and adjustment or calibration; Maintains inventory of equipment and tools and requisitions supplies, as required; Keeps abreast of latest developments in the field of electronics; Designs, fabricates and assembles various types of tools and equipment for use in water pollution control; Utilizes computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet and database applications; Performs data entry.

Qualifications: QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE FOR TAKING THE TEST: Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class and must be serving and have served continuously on a permanent or contingent permanent basis in the competitive class for 24 months immediately preceding the date of the written test in the position of Electronics Instrumentation Mechanic.

Subjects of Examination:

A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:

1. Basic Electronics, Including Electrical & Electronic Circuitry, Schematics & Wiring Diagrams: These questions test for knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices involved in basic electronics, including electrical and electronic circuitry, schematics, and wiring diagrams; and may include such areas as the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance; the identification and function of circuit and solid state components; and the ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.

2. Use Of Electronic Test Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the use of electronic test equipment, including identification and proper selection of electronic test equipment.

3. Repair, Maintenance, & Operating Characteristics Of Electronic Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the operating characteristics, proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment.

4. Operation, Maintenance & Repair Of Equipment Used In Instrumentation, Including Meters, Sensors, Indicators, Recorders & Data Acquisition Equipment: These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used in electronic instrumentation, including meters, sensors, indicators, recorders, and data acquisition equipment. Topics covered will include equipment identification, selection, measurement, maintenance, and data interpretation.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: Unless otherwise noted, candidates are permitted to use quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.

 

INFORMATION FOR PROMOTION CANDIDATES

Unless otherwise indicated, the eligible list resulting from this examination will have a duration of four years and will not supersede existing promotional lists, if any.

RATINGS REQUIRED: Test is rated on a scale of 100 with a passing mark at 70. Test instructions may further divide the tests into parts and set minimum standards for each part.

Points will be added to scores of candidates who achieve a passing mark as follows: Seniority: For each year of service in the classified service:
