Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

Examples of Duties:

Nurse Practitioner- Dept. of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery provides expended clinical services to patients of the Head and Neck Oncology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation; 

Assesses the physical status of patients by interviewing patients, obtaining medical histories and performing comprehensive physical examinations;

Diagnoses and treats patients with minor illnesses;

Assesses patients on a daily basis and documents assessment;

Initiates orders;

Reviews patient testing, interprets results and correlates this information with the overall plan of care;

Recognizes deviations from the normal in physical assessment; collaborates with physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up;

Administers medications;

Evaluates care provided by members of the health care team with respect to the patient’s overall treatment; makes suggestions and recommendations for improvement in the delivery of care;

Monitors and renders care for those patients with established chronic stable medical illnesses;

Informs supervisors of actual or potential problems that require resolution at the administrative level;

Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician;

Responds to life threatening emergencies;

Supervises and directs staff, nursing and paraprofessional staff;

Ensures that departmental and interdepartmental policies, procedures, objective and standards of care are maintained;

Acts as a resource person for patients, visitors and staff regarding nursing care problems;

Serves as a mentor for bedside nursing staff and nursing students;

Completes required documentation for professional billing under the auspices of the supervising physician;

Attends meetings, seminars and information sessions; participates in interdisciplinary care conferences and serves on departmental or administrative committees;

Maintains records and prepares reports.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before June 27, 2018:

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s Degree in Nursing; and either:

A) Two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in the certified specialty area; or:

B) Two (2) years of registered professional nursing experience in plastic and/or reconstructive surgery or surgical oncology.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a current license and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at time of appointment; and:

Possession of a current New York State Department of Education Certification as a Nurse Practitioner to practice in Adult, Family Care or Oncology at time of appointment; and:

Possession of a Certification as a Nurse Practitioner as issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other certifying body recognized by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) at time of appointment; and

Possession of a current Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Number issued by the United States Department of Drug Enforcement Administration at time of appointment.

1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.   

2.  Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices.  If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.  You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination. 

 

Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of your professional license. Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
