Nurse Practitioner-Rehabilitation Services

Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION.  There is one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

Examples of Duties:

Nurse Practitioner-Rehabilitation Services provides expanded rehabilitative nursing services to patients at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Provides patients with rehabilitation services, medical assistance and counseling on health related problems in an inpatient or outpatient setting;

Obtains medical and social histories and performs comprehensive physical examinations; makes diagnoses and prescribes therapeutic regimens;

Ensures admission, daily and transfer orders are completed in a timely manner; revises orders as needed;

Completes patient history and physical; assesses, documents and orders preventive and/or treatment measures as indicated;

Obtains samples and specimens for appropriate laboratory analysis and reviews results;

Provides first-aid and performs minor surgical procedures, treatment services and other medical support roles under the direction of a physician;

Initiates orders for diagnostic studies, medications and referrals to specialists;

Identifies and documents critical deviations in patient condition, initiates treatment orders and notifies physician;

Conducts follow-up examinations of patients;

Screens patients to assess need for immediate care or referral to other health personnel;

Administers medication and drugs in accordance with established policies and procedures;

Documents in patient charts and maintains detailed records of patient treatment;

Ensures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, coordination of services and education;

Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports, making suggestions and recommendations on therapeutic and nursing problems;

Provides input into the formulation of patient care standards;

Responds to life threatening emergencies;

Provides health education and prevention programs;

Ensures that departmental and interdepartmental policies, procedures, objectives and standards of care are maintained;

Attends meetings, seminars and information sessions related to professional activities.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before on or before January 9, 2019:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's Degree in Nursing and either:

A) One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Rehabilitation, Neurology, Neurosurgery or related field; or:
B) Four years of registered professional nursing experience in an acute care setting, including two years of which were in a Rehabilitation, Neurology or Neurosurgery or related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possession of a current license and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at time of application for examination; and:
  2. Possession of a current New York State Department of Education Certification as a Nurse Practitioner that specifies specialty area of practice at time of appointment; and:
  3. Possession of a current Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number issued by the United State Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration at time of appointment.

Notes:

1.  Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.  

2.  Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices.  If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.  You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.  You are therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended.  You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.  Also include a copy of your professional license.  Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each.  Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor.  Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
