Residence Requirements:

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS:  THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION.  There are two anticipated vacancies at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC)

Examples of Duties:

Nursing Care Coordinator supervises and performs professional nursing care given to patients, utilizing the nursing process; supervises and directs the complete nursing service of a number of patient care units within a specific area or the complete nursing service on off shifts, weekends or holidays; plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the work activities of all professional and non-professional nursing personnel in the area; evaluates and directs all nursing activities using quality assurance standards; makes rounds and evaluates quality of care being rendered, condition of patient, and maintenance of the area; develops and implements the nursing regimen, using the nursing process, for assigned patients; records and reports on patient's responses, and collaborates with appropriate members of the health team; identifies those components of the nursing regimen which may be delegated to allied nursing personnel and provides necessary guidance; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences; confers with physicians regarding care and treatment methods, and cooperates in providing services as requested; participates in the discharge and transfer of patients; plans and arranges for relief of staff and allots time for work, off-duty, meals and vacations; assists in training of student nurses assigned to section through on-the-job instruction and supervision of work; supervises maintenance of records of nursing care and medical treatment rendered by nursing staff; requests supplies and equipment for the area served; monitors use of supplies an equipment in a fiscally responsible manner; participates in in-service training as programmer or instructor; plans, assesses and evaluates the orientation of staff and equipment, emergency procedures and disaster plan; ensures that hospital and departmental policies are adhered to; counsels and disciplines employees; participates in nursing and hospital committees; completes performance evaluations; manages internal and external disasters effectively; completes incident reports and client concern forms as required; accesses administrative staff appropriately for issue notification and/or assistance in resolution; completes staffing effectiveness and nursing care hour reports. 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before May 18, 2016:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and three years of registered professional nursing experience, with at least one year in a supervisory * or administrative** capacity.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of New York.

NOTES:    1.  *Supervision – Responsible direction and control of subordinate employees.  This involves the assignment of work, approval of work, training, evaluation and discipline of employees.  The supervisory aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.   2. **Administrative experience is defined as the responsible planning, management and control functions of an organization or organizational unit including the development and /or approval of operating policy and procedure.  3. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.  4. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices.  A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed.  If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.  You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of your professional license. Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
