Residence Requirements:

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There are one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).

Examples of Duties:

A Nursing Team Leader -Dialysis assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and assigns nursing care on a Dialysis Unit at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Makes rounds with physicians and dialysis quality team reviewing specific measures for regulatory and unit reporting;

Develops and implements dialysis specific protocols and policies and procedures;

Provides management oversight; supervises nursing activities;

Schedules and assigns staff according to dialysis unit requirements to maintain educational preparation and patient acuity;

Monitors staff performance to ensure that the patient care plan is implemented and specific measures are tracked to include laboratory sampling and monitoring and medication adherence;

Monitors compliance of personnel with departmental and hospital policies and takes corrective action when necessary; 

Ensures medical and nursing orders are implemented in a timely manner;

Assists with performance evaluation and progressive discipline;

Orients new staff to their duties; conducts formal and informal educational programs for staff;

Monitors and utilizes supplies and equipment in a fiscally responsible manner;

Participates in nursing committees;

Serves as a clinical resource person, patient advocate and clinical role model;

Performs tasks normally delegated to lower ranking nursing department employees, as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before June 14, 2017:  

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of registered professional nursing experience including one (1) year of nursing experience in a dialysis setting; or:

B) Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and two (2) years of registered professional nursing experience in a dialysis setting; or:

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at time of appointment.

NOTES: 1. Candidates must possess at least one (1) year of experience in the specialty area to which they are requesting assignment. Specialty areas shall include critical care*, emergency nursing, medical/surgical, operating room, ambulatory care and behavioral health.  2. *Critical care experience will meet the requirements for positions in the post anesthesia recovery room and the cardiac catheterization laboratory.  3. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements. 4. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION:  The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.  You are therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended.  You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.  Also include a copy of your professional license.  Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each.  Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor.  Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
