RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center.

Examples of Duties:

A  Pharmaceutical Stores Clerk supervises receipt, ordering, storage and issuance of drugs and supplies for the hospital pharmacy dispensing areas.
 Determines item, time and quantity of drugs/or supplies to order and prepares all related forms in the process:
Maintains accurate systems for physical inventory counts and the allocation of costs to cost centers;
Supervises pharmacy aides in posting receipts and withdrawals of drugs and supplies, distribution of solution, storage and stock rotation;
Monitors order process for problems and follows through on problems;
Coordinates the orientation and training of pharmacy aides;
Proposes revisions to inventory and distribution systems to improve control and efficiency;
Reviews accounts, reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy and conformity with established procedures;
Performs moderately difficult arithmetic calculations on accounts and in preparing reports;
Indexes and files documents and correspondence;
Assembles a variety of data from office records for incorporation into various reports;
May answer telephone, gives routine information to the public and makes appointments for superior;
May occasionally operate an alphanumeric keyboard to transcribe data directly to a computer;
Performs employee payroll recordkeeping.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six years of experience as a pharmacy aide in an inpatient setting.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of certificate as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board at time of appointment.

NOTE:   Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Subjects of Examination:

Subjects of examination: A written test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas:

1. Arithmetic computation with calculator

These questions test for the ability to use a calculator to do basic computations. Questions will involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may also be asked to calculate averages, to use percents, and to round an answer to the nearest whole number.You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone.

2. Keeping simple inventory records

These questions test for the ability to follow instructions in keeping simple inventory records of different materials received and distributed from a central location. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide will be required. You may have to compute total costs from quantities (number of units) and cost or price per unit. Knowledge of specific record keeping systems and techniques will not be needed.

3. Name and number checking

These questions test for the ability to distinguish between sets of words, letters, and/or numbers that are almost exactly alike. Material is usually presented in two or three columns, and you will have to determine how the entry in the first column compares with the entry in the second column and possibly the third. You will be instructed to mark your answers according to a designated code provided in the directions.

4. Supervision

These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES:  It is recommended that candidates use a quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculator.  Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.  You may not bring books or other reference materials.
