Residence Requirements:

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT.  

The eligible list resulting from this examination will be used to fill a future vacancy in the West Seneca Central School District ($25.72 -$47.95 per hour) and will also fill other appropriate vacancies which may occur in municipalities or districts under the jurisdiction of Erie County Civil Service while this list is active.  Salaries vary among municipalities and districts. 

Under current New York State Law, candidates seeking employment with school districts in New York State will be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check prior to appointment. A processing fee may be required.

 

Examples of Duties:

Registered Professional Nurse Coordinator-Schools performs professional nursing services at one or more schools in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school health records and the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems;

Assists the school physician in physicals, visual and auditory screening examinations of students;

Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees;

Prepares and maintains health records for school authorities;

Assists at school immunization clinics;

Arranges together with transportation department the transport of sick or injured student or employees to hospital, home, doctor's or dentist's office in cases of emergency;

Inspects the school plant, playground and cafeteria and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions;

Orders, inventories and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment;

Consults with attendance clerks and staff members concerning a variety of health factors related to non-attendance and communicable diseases;

Plans in-service education of nurses, allied health and clerical personnel, volunteers and students;

Assures nursing service is in accord with the policies and programs;

Monitors compliance of personnel with school health policies and advises supervisory personnel of areas of concern;

Reviews and evaluates records and reports of the nursing staff for program development and to plan staff development;

Conducts formal and informal educational programs for staff;

Orients new staff to their duties, participates in nursing committees, and serves as a clinical resource person;

Consults with other health officials on problems affecting other areas of health and agencies;

Participates in school activities relating to general health;

Coordinates nursing services among schools within the District and with other departments and agencies;

Ensures that medical and nursing records are implemented in a complete, accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before January 9, 2019:

Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department or from a course approved by such department as qualifying for Registered Professional
Nurse. A minimum of three (3) years registered professional nursing experience, at least one (1) year of which involved school health nursing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Licensure and current registration to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.

2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of your professional license. Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
