Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There are three anticipated vacancies at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

A promotion examination will be held at the same time as this examination. The list resulting from the promotion examination will be used first but appointments from this open competitive examination are anticipated. Use of the list may be suspended after it is one year old for any position which it is practical to fill through a new promotion examination.

Examples of Duties:

Senior Biomedical Repair Technician performs a variety of activities in relation to all biomedical equipment utilized in patient care at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Performs a variety of routine, complex and highly-specialized work involved in the installation, maintenance, servicing, modification, troubleshooting and calibration of all biomedical equipment utilizing specialized test equipment and in accordance with specifications;

May be assigned to serve as a team lead for one of the following areas, including, but not limited to: dialysis, monitoring and life support;

Interprets engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphical illustrations;

Assists in the support of a systematic preventive maintenance program for biomedical equipment;

Performs troubleshooting, diagnoses and performs corrective actions on biomedical equipment, software and internal electronic circuitry in accordance with specified requirements;

Makes necessary calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to adjust circuitry to specified requirements as required;

Documents all stages of biomedical equipment lifecycle from installation through corrective and preventative maintenance actions to removal from service for all biomedical equipment and accessories as required;

Informs supervisor of equipment deficiencies and advises on corrective course of action as required;

Determines methods used to test biomedical equipment for optimal functionality;

Provides technical training, checks the work of and serves as a mentor to lower-level Biomedical Services personnel;

Ensures work is performed in accordance with applicable safety standards, policies and procedures for areas including, but not limited to, quality assurance, infection control safety, environment of care and patient experience;

Provides technical assistance and instruction to ECMCC personnel in the operation and maintenance of biomedical equipment and accessories;

Provides recommendations regarding the purchase or lease of biomedical equipment, related accessories and contractual services.

 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:

A.) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Electronics, Electronics or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, of which one (1) year involved the installation, maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment; or:

B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, of which one (1) year involved the installation, maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment; or:

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

. 1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.

2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

Subjects of examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.

Basic electronics, including electrical and electronic circuitry, schematics and wiring diagrams

These questions test for knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices involved in basic electronics, including electrical and electronic circuitry, schematics, and wiring diagrams; and may include such areas as the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance; the identification and function of circuit and solid state components; and the ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.

Use of electronic test equipment

These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the use of electronic test equipment, including identification and proper selection of electronic test equipment.

Repair, maintenance, and operating characteristics of electronic equipment

These questions test for knowledge of the operating characteristics, proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment. 

Biomedical instrumentation

These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation, application, calibration, maintenance, and repair of various types of biomedical monitoring devices and biomedical instruments, including safety procedures.

Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
