Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

A promotion examination will be held at the same time as this examination. The list resulting from the promotion examination will be used first but appointments from this open competitive examination are anticipated. Use of the list may be suspended after it is one year old for any position which it is practical to fill through a new promotion examination.

Examples of Duties:

Senior Environmental Services Supervisor assists in the planning, coordination and supervision of hospital housekeeping projects and daily operations at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Assists in the coordination and scheduling of housekeeping and support services projects, including isolation cleaning, day to day patient room cleaning, discharge unit cleaning, housecleaning projects, ceiling, light, vent and window cleaning, floor stripping, waxing and buffing and carpet cleaning;

Plans or organizes projects;

Directs and supervises work areas and housekeeping and support services staff;

Performs quality assurance inspections, staffing projects, supply distributions and follows up on quality assurance incident reports of the staff and designated areas;

Trains, orients, schedules and assigns personnel;

Provides essential equipment and supplies;

Keeps project records and statistics (e.g. supplies and equipment used, units cleaned, project reports);

Inspects project areas for quality of work performed and adherence to established procedures and policies;

Monitors work flow and troubleshoots problems;

Maintains established policies, procedures and objectives on quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control;

Directs maintenance and care of equipment and supplies used in projects;

Utilizes hand-held communication devices;

Attends in-service and educational meetings, seminars, workshops, etc.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:

A) Completion of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university and two (2) years of institutional housekeeping operations experience in a management or supervisory position; or:

B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of institutional housekeeping operations experience, two (2) years of which were in a management or supervisory position; or;

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

Notes:

1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.

2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

Scopes / Subjects of examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.

Ability to read and follow written instructions
These questions test for the ability to read, understand and apply written instructions for performing tasks similar to those encountered on the job. All the information needed to answer these questions will be provided in the test booklet.

Building cleaning
These questions test for knowledge of basic principles and practices of building cleaning. They cover such areas as equipment, tools, supplies, methods and procedures for cleaning different types of surfaces and materials under various, commonly occurring circumstances.

Supervision and training
These questions test for the knowledge required by a supervisor to set goals, plan and organize work, train workers in how to do their jobs, and direct workers towards meeting established goals. The supervisory questions cover such areas as assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, maintaining work quality, motivating employees, increasing efficiency, and dealing with problems that may arise on the job. The training questions cover such areas as determining the necessity for training, selecting appropriate training methods, and evaluating the effectiveness of training.

Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.
