Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one  anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

The eligible list resulting from this examination will not supersede currently existing promotional eligible lists for this title, if any. The duration of all promotional eligible lists is four years from date of establishment unless otherwise indicated.

Examples of Duties:

Speech Language Pathologist-Early Intervention and Preschool plans and implements speech-language therapy services to children, birth to five (5) years of age, enrolled in the Early Intervention and Preschool Programs at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Conducts speech-language assessments to determine the presence and extent of communication disorders and/or impairments; prepares assessment reports;

Plans and provides speech-language therapy services in the child's least restrictive environment as outlined in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Plan (IEP);

Plans, develops and implements age-appropriate educational outcomes and goals for the students;

Maintains regular communication with families/caregivers, general education teachers and other treatment team members;

Prepares and maintains records and reports;

Performs peer reviews, as requested, including field observations and consultative services to contractual speech-language pathology staff;

Supervises non-licensed Clinical Fellowship Year candidates, including making assignments and assisting candidates with schedules;

Represents Pediatric Educational and Diagnostic Services (PEDS) - ECMC at IFSP and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings;

Attends and participates in team conferences.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a license and current registration to practice Speech-Language Therapy in New York State as issued by the New York State Education Department at time of appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License and use of a private automobile at time of appointment.

Section 424-a of the Social Services Law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. All potential employees for this position will be requested to sign the necessary clearance form prior to being advised that they will be hired. Refusal to sign will be cause for an automatic non-selection.

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination. 

Subjects of Examination:

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.  You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended.  You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.  Also include a copy of your professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensure.  Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each.  Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor.  Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
