Downtime to Occur on Sunday, September 21

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Social Services has advised that due to a change in vendors by New York State, there will be a period of time on Sunday, September 21, 2014 when Electronic Benefits Transfer (“EBT”) cards will not work for cash or food purchases, or to withdraw cash. This EBT downtime will begin around 12 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014, and could last until 5 p.m. that day. After the conversion, existing EBT cards will continue to work, and there is no need for recipients to replace their card. There will be no impact on access to medical benefits. EBT cardholders were notified by New York State of the transition by letter between July 8 and August 11. If problems persist past September 21, 2014, recipients are advised to call 1-888-328-6399.
