The Erie County Department of Senior Services has announced that 14 area Senior Centers will be receiving GPS units for the 26 Going Places senior vans they use to transport local seniors to medical appointments, shopping excursions, or their other needs in the community. The units, along with directions on their use, will be supplied to the centers and their van drivers this week.

“This upgrade will supply Going Places drivers with the latest technology they need to accurately plot destinations and directions, making it easier on them and the seniors they serve,” said Erie County Commissioner of Senior Services Timothy Hogues. “The centers we work with have been asking for devices like these for the Going Places fleet and we are certain that they will appreciate the improvement this will make.”

The units will be installed in Going Places vans in use at the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Center, the Cheektowaga Senior Center, and senior centers in the Town of Tonawanda, West Seneca, Evans, Lancaster, Clarence, Orchard Park, and Lackawanna, as well as the Bell Center, Schiller Park Senior Center, the Northwest and Old First Ward senior centers, and the West Side Community centers. Some of these centers use more than one Going Places van, but each van at their center will get a GPS unit. Each GPS unit is made by Garmin, with an easy-to-read navigator with 5.0 dual orientation display and Garmin Real Directions technology.
