County Executive, Commissioners, Employees Affix Signatures to Join Buffalo Mayor Brown

ERIE COUNTY, NY— Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, along with numerous county Commissioners and employees, today joined Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown to affix his signature to Buffalo’s Opportunity Pledge. County Commissioners and employees had already added their signatures to the Pledge, which aims to encourage businesses, organizations and residents to support inclusiveness and work together to build a culture of inclusion and fairness in Buffalo.

“Inclusion, fairness and equality are goals that transcend communities, governments, businesses and agencies and should always be at the forefront of our actions. With this Pledge, Erie County and its employees are showing their support for these goals,” said County Executive Poloncarz. “Businesses and communities grow when all individuals have an opportunity to succeed and be a part of the new energy and vitality in Erie County, and we must act to ensure that no one is left behind. In our cities, our suburbs, and everywhere in Erie County, in public life and in private enterprise, inclusion should be embraced and promoted.”

“We continue to build a city of opportunity in Buffalo where all citizens benefit from the positive changes that are happening in our community,” said Mayor Byron Brown, noting that over $5.5 billion in new economic development activity is currently underway in Buffalo which is expected to create over 12,000 new jobs.  “As Buffalo’s significant economic resurgence continues, I thank Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, County Commissioners and County Employees for helping to promote our shared message of encouraging businesses and residents to demonstrate a commitment to building a culture of inclusion, diversity and equity in Buffalo and Erie County.”

To date, over 5,100 individuals have signed the Buffalo Opportunity Pledge along with nearly 210 businesses representing over 70,000 employees. The Opportunity Pledge can be viewed and signed here.
