$250,000 from the 2020 Erie County Budget will go to fund numerous, high priority projects

Erie County, NY – Ever year, Erie County spends millions of dollars to maintain its wide network of county roads and infrastructure that traverses many suburbs and rural areas. To equalize this investment, the Erie County Legislature has made funding the three cities in Erie County a priority during the most recent budget negotiation process. As part of the “Urban Initiatives” allocation, the City of Lackawanna received an additional $250,000 from Erie County this year.

Erie County Legislator John Gilmour, who represents Lackawanna in the Legislature, said, “Erie County is a diverse area with different yet very pressing needs all over. This money will go to good use in the City of Lackawanna especially during a year when local governments are struggling from loss of state and other revenue. I’m proud to work with my partner in government, Mayor Iafallo, and support this important area of the 9th Legislative District.”

Lackawanna expects to use this funding for vital public safety upgrades including a beacon crosswalk in the 1st ward and additional security cameras for City buildings. There will also be upgrades to grounds keeping and public works equipment.
