grant guthrie hogues III            Russell Guthrie of Buffalo, center, a World War II and D-Day U.S. Army veteran, was honored by Erie County Legislature Chairperson Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo), left, and County Legislator Timothy R. Hogues (D-Buffalo), right, during the Legislature’s June 6 session to mark the 69th anniversary of D-Day. Mr. Guthrie, who earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart Medal, landed on the Normandy beaches on D-Day, fought at the Battle of the Bulge and his unit helped liberate the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps.
