Chairperson Grant, Legislator Hogues Announce Second Violence Summit

OFFICE HIGHLIGHTS

Erie County Legislature Chairperson Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo), County Legislator Timothy R. Hogues (D-Buffalo) and the We Are Women Warriors Group will host Part 2 of the Summit on Violent Crime and Homicides at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, at the Frank E. Merriweather Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave., Buffalo.

“This summit is a continuation of the Summit that was interrupted a few weeks ago. I shall not be intimidated or threatened in silence,” Chairperson Grant said. “Our youth are dying and I will continue to speak up against policies and practices that help to destroy our youth regardless of the fear tactics that are and will be directed against my family and myself.”

Legislators Grant and Hogues urge people to join other parents, community leaders and pastors who are burying their children and who are victims of gun violence as frequently as the more violent members of our community.

“None of our children are safe. We have to take a community-wide stance on eradicating this violence and let the politicians make the decision as to whether they will join us or not,” Chairperson Grant added.

Panelists include Rev. George Nicholas, Rev. Fred Gelsey, Cheektowaga Police Chief David Zack, Erie County Medical Center Police Chief Chris Cummings and a male and female youth from the community. I hope to see you there. As in the first time, Mayor Byron Brown and the Buffalo Police Department have been invited to attend and participate.
