Chairperson Grant, Legislature to Honor D-Day Veteran Russell Guthrie June 6


WHAT: U.S. Army World War II and D-Day veteran Russell Guthrie to be honored by the Erie County Legislature on the 69th anniversary of D-Day, the Western Allies invasion of Europe

WHEN: 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Erie County Legislature session

WHERE: Erie County Legislature Chambers, Fourth Floor, Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo

            Russell Guthrie of Buffalo was age 18 when he landed at Normandy on D-Day on June 6, 1944. He later fought at the Battle of the Bulge and his unit helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp in 1945. He will be honored for his service and help receive a proclamation marking June 6, 2013, as the 69th anniversary of D-Day. 

            The Erie County Legislature and Chairperson Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo) will be privileged to have Russell Guthrie attend its session, and he will be available for interviews.
