Chairperson Grant, Public Safety Committee Seek Telephone Fund Accounting

The Erie County Legislature Public Safety Committee will host a discussion on the current status of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office inmate telephone fund at its 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, meeting in the Legislature Chambers on the Fourth Floor of Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo.

Legislature Chairperson Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo) and Legislator Timothy R. Hogues (D-Buffalo), chair of the Public Safety Committee, are seeking information previously asked for and agreed to be delivered to the Public Safety Committee on the status of the telephone revenue account, opened by Sheriff Timothy Howard through M&T Bank, in which revenue of about $700,000, including a signing bonus, was deposited. The full amount was to be turned over the Erie County Comptroller’s Office, but no record of that has been presented to the County Legislature.

After originally containing more than $700,000, a recent bank statement shows that about $669,000 remains in the account.
