Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School Robotics Team Wolverine Welcomed to the Erie County Legislature by Democratic Leader Betty Jean Grant

Betty Jean Grant met with the students of the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School Robotics Team on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Erie County Legislature.  The students will be representing the City of Buffalo at the First Robotics Competition (FRC) Finger Lakes Regional in Rochester, N.Y. at the state competition on Friday, March 28, 2014.

Grant Resolution Wins Unanimous Support

On Thursday, February 20, 2014 the Erie County Legislature unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Legislator Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo) calling on Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to revive efforts to encourage foreign direct investment and attract foreign companies to New York State.

Calling Upon the Social Services Department to Restore Much-Needed Funding for Substance Abuse Treatment Beds for Women in Recovery

Legislator Grant is very concerned about funding cuts to area women’s shelters that provide life-saving detox, mental health and substance abuse counseling.  A resolution Legislator Grant co-sponsored has brought attention to the issue and important testimony before the Legislature’s Health & Human Service Committee.

CPS Making Strides, Although State Legislation Would Help Even More

The serious problem with CPS over the last several years is just heart-wrenching.  Reforms within this County department are ongoing and helpful, and together with reforms at the State level, will provide additional avenues to help our most vulnerable residents.  Joining her Democratic colleagues in supporting legislation currently before both houses of the State Legislature, Betty Jean Grant is hopeful that this legislation secures passage, as well as the signature of Gov. Cuomo, in order to become law.

Grant Selected Democratic Minority Leader, Assigned Committee Posts

At the re-organizational meeting of the Erie County Legislature held on Thursday, January 2, 2014, Legislator Betty Jean Grant won unanimous support from her Democratic colleagues to become Minority Leader of the Legislature.  Additionally, Legislator Grant was appointed by Chair John J. Mills to committee assignments, which include Minority & Women Business Enterprise, Public Safety, Health & Human Services, Energy & Environment, as well as the Finance & Management Committee.
