Legislator Betty Jean Grant Honors Community Heroes

Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo) honored Melissa R. H. Brown and her daughter Michaela R. Brown at a session of the Legislature, held in the Old County Hall, in the City of Buffalo, on the 20th day of February, 2014.
Michaela R. Brown on the morning of January 25th 2014 noticed black smoke rising from the upper rear window of a two-family home on Northampton Avenue near Holland Place in the City of Buffalo. Michaela sprang into action with her mother, Melissa R. H. Brown that morning, immediately dialing 911, rushing to the front door of that home to evacuate the families residing there, thinking to grab shoes, clothes and blankets to keep them warm.
Michaela and Melissa’s actions helped to save six youngsters, their teenage sibling, their mother, and their family dog.
The Erie County Legislature and Legislator Betty Jean Grant presented Melissa and Michaela a proclamation and commended them for their dedication to the community and their heroic actions on the morning of January 25, 2014.
