Healthy Choices Program

A program that allows diners to make informed menu choices.

Responding to an ever-increasing demand for the nutritional information about the food we eat, the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) and the Western New York (WNY) Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA) have joined together to launch a program to provide local restaurant owners with the ability to determine the nutritional values of menu items. Restaurateurs will now be able to determine the exact nutritional value and caloric count of any menu item that they serve.

The restaurant owner simply inputs a recipe’s ingredients and portion size into the software system and the program generates a Nutrition Facts Label, exactly like those found on most supermarket food items. Each restaurant signing up will have access to four free menu item analyses. Acrylic stands and sign cubes are also available for displaying menus or labels.

Those wishing to expand their options and obtain more than four analyses will be charged a nominal fee by the program’s provider.
