39% OF ERIE COUNTY RESIDENTS HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE DOSE OF COVID-19 VACCINE 

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is providing an update on the number of COVID-19 vaccinations administered to Erie County residents based on information provided by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). As of April 8, 39% of Erie County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 25% percent have completed the COVID-19 vaccine series.

Through April 8, ECDOH administered 52,087 first doses and 37,310 second doses at county-run PODs (points of distribution). This includes first-doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered at Erie County’s pop-up PODs at the William Emslie Family YMCA, Greater Faith Bible Tabernacle and Prince of Peace Church, all in Buffalo.

“Erie County has experienced a strong and sustained increase in new COVID-19 cases, and we suspect that more easily transmitted variants of concern are driving much of this surge in cases,” said Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein. “Without the protective benefits of COVID-19 vaccine for so many in our community, that number could have been even higher. Masks, social distancing, staying home when ill and getting a diagnostic test if you have symptoms or an exposure are the day-to-day tools we have to turn this tide of new cases.”

Vaccinations by ZIP code through April 3 are posted to the ECDOH web site, and ECDOH provides updates on Tuesdays.
