ERIE COUNTY WANTS RESIDENTS TO #GETSCREENED

Community Urged to ‘Bring A Breast Friend’ for On-site Mammograms, Mocktails & More

August 2019 (BUFFALO, N.Y.) – Erie County Cancer Services Program (ECCSP) is teaming up with POWER 93.7 WBLK Radio and Windsong Radiology Group to “debunk” the myths and perceptions WNYers have about cancer screenings and to raise awareness for the county’s free cancer screening programs for men and women in Erie County who are uninsured or underinsured.

The #GetScreened event is happening Saturday, Sept. 21 in the parking lot of the Northland Workforce Training Center at 683 Northland Avenue in Buffalo. The event is free and open to the public.

Windsong Mobile Mammography will be providing mammograms for women who are 40 and older. Windsong will provide a Physician Assistant to perform a Clinical Breast Exam and write an order for the test. Reserve your appointment today, by calling 716.929.9494, and be sure to bring proper ID that day. Walk-ins are also welcome.

“Screenings are a vital and necessary tool used for early detection that provide people a warning about potential problems and allow them to have more time to address any concerns,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “This event and other programs from the Department of Health support Erie County residents in making educated decisions about their health. I encourage everyone to find the time to attend this upcoming cancer screening at the Northland Workforce Training Center.”

The event also offers a lot of fun! In addition to the health resources provided, attendees can meet WBLK DJ Yasmin Young, who will be getting her first mammogram that day. Enjoy the music, free mocktails and food, hand massages, a photo booth, rock painting and giveaways. Plus, how often can you walk through a giant, inflatable walk-through colon and learn about colon health?

Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the community can expect to learn about several cancer screenings at the #GetScreened event including:

- Colon cancer screening options (In-home “FIT Kit” will be available*)

- PAP tests for cervical cancer
- Mammograms for breast cancer
- Oral cancer
- Lung cancer
- Prostate cancer

For more information, contact ECCSP at 716.858.7376 or visit http://www.erie.gov/cancerservices

*The “FIT Kit” is covered in full by most major health insurance plans for those with insurance and offered without cost for people who are uninsured.
