Erie County Residents Invited to Take Advantage of Health Screenings

ERIE COUNTY, NY—The Cancer Services Program of Erie County (“CSP”) has enlisted some of the area’s paramount health-related motor coaches to host a unique event: VANtastic, a Mobile Coach Health Fair on Saturday, July 26th from 8:00 am to 12 noon. A variety of healthcare agencies will offer health screenings and health education information.

Saturday, July 26, 2014

8am --12 noon

Five Guys Plaza, 3860 McKinley Parkway, Blasdell

(same location as the McKinley OB/GYN Center)

CSP has teamed up with McKinley OB/GYN, a Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo facility, and Western New York Breast Health to offer a free clinical breast exam and mammogram screening for uninsured women, aged 40 and over. Every woman screened will receive a fresh flower and free gift for their participation.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 716-858-7376.

“I strongly encourage women without health insurance who are aged 40 or older to take advantage of this opportunity to receive both a free breast exam and a free mammogram” said Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein.  “A screening mammogram is used to check for breast cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. Early detection of breast cancer with screening mammography means that treatment can be started earlier in the course of the disease, possibly before it has spread.

Unyts, the primary supplier of blood products for Kaleida Health and ECMC will be holding a blood donation drive.  Individuals that plan to donate that morning are advised to eat a substantial breakfast, be well hydrated and bring along a photo ID. All donated blood stays in WNY to help local patients in local hospitals.

Additional participants in the Health Fair will include MASH Urgent Care, providing blood pressure screenings, giveaways from the Western New York Dental Group and TCBY offering free frozen yogurt samples and coupons.    For more information or to register for the event, please call 716-858-7376.
