The Emergency HEAP Benefit (Heating) component will open on on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Effective February 18, 2020 Erie County HEAP will be offering Second Emergency benefits for heat and heat-related emergencies.
This benefit is available to eligible Erie County residents unable to resolve their heating emergencies. The benefit is structured for the household's primary and/or secondary source of heat. The HEAP office is located on the second floor of 460 Main St. in downtown Buffalo, open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
To be eligible for this assistance, applicants must be income-eligible, a customer of record and meet resource criteria.
These applicants must have exhausted their Regular and first emergency benefit and still be be in the threat of termination with their primary source of heat. Heat-related emergency customers must have exhausted their emergency benefit and be in threat of termination. The department offers phone certification at 858-7644, Monday through Friday.
