As Chair of the Erie County Legislature Public Safety Committee, I commend the contract negotiators from the Teamsters Union Local 375 and Rural/Metro Medical Service for coming to an agreement that respects the need for the trained, skilled first responders to be fairly compensated.
On a daily basis, Rural/Metro paramedics and emergency medical technicians put their lives on the line in some of the toughest neighborhoods in our community. Their commitment and competence save lives. Their on-the-scene skills give our citizens a fighting chance to reach the hospital and survive.
By ensuring that Rural/Metro medical services would be delivered without interruption, both sides at the bargaining table put the safety and welfare of the public first, as they do every single day.
A grateful community is breathing a sigh of relief.
