WNY Pediatric & Adolescent Coalition in collaboration with the WNY Adult Immunization Coalition remembers Dr. Richard Judelsohn. Dr. Judelsohn’s untimely death at age 69 was a great loss to this community. He had a long and distinguished career as a practicing pediatrician and partner at Buffalo Pediatrics, while also serving as medical director of the Erie Country Department of Health. He was a member of the NYS Immunization Advisory Council since its inception in 1994 and traveled around the world advocating vaccines.
We are pleased to announce that our coalitions will honor Dr. Judelsohn’s memory yearly by presenting the “Dr. Richard Judelsohn WNY Immunization Champion Award” at our annual Immunization Conference recognizing a vaccine champion of the year.
This year, the recipient of this award is Joseph Kita, MD of Carrow Street Pediatrics. He advocates strongly for pediatric and adolescent vaccination immunizations. He has worked diligently to promote the uptake of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine to protect adolescent males and females by spearheading a response to a largely inaccurate article posted in WNY Family regarding the HPV vaccine. As a result of such, most, if not all, pediatric practices removed the magazine from their waiting rooms, and discontinued advertising within the magazine due to the magazine’s unsatisfactory response to their concerns. His voice led to a robust response from other providers in the WNY area regarding the misinformation within the article.
The award was presented at our 8TH annual immunization conference held May 21, 2014 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. For more information please visit our website at: www.wnypac.org or www.immunizewny.org.
