2014 Immunization Conference Planning 5/21/2014

Karm and Beverly met to discuss the conference and to work on the agenda and brochure.

Salvatores was notified that we will not need the extra room for breakout sessions since we will not be doing that this year.

It has been brought up in the past to join with the Finger Lakes for a conference. We have decided to keep the conference separate because we don’t want to lose people by having the conference too far away for people to attend.

Finger Lakes Conference is the day before ours 5/20/14-we will be sharing CDC speaker- Dr. Kroger for adult/peds imm update and ACIP role. Beverly emailed Dr. Kroger and he agreed to speak on the ACIP and can also stay later in the day since he will be leaving out of Rochester.

Dr. Domochowski will be speaking and we agreed to pay him the honorarium of $2000. Vaccine Hesitancy is more practical topic.

Dr. Mattimore will speak on the History of vaccines.

Dina Hofer will be speaking on NYSIIS. She may be sending someone in her place. She will let me know.

Cindy Schulte will be speaking about preventing vaccine errors.

We will be showing the film Invisible Threat. We’ve received permission to do this from producer.

We discussed the idea of having popcorn during the movies. We wanted fresh popped but Salvatores cannot do this. We will look into getting bagged popcorn and setting them on the tables during the viewing. We discussed having a drawing for free movie tickets but you have to be there to win. Hopefuly this will keep people there.

Dr. Mahoney to moderate.

No updates on new venues for 2015.

Price increase to $35 to reflect requested new menu items (fruit, yogurt).

Save the date flyer goal for Jan 2014.

Industry reps Grant Letters – Karen states that these have been sent out.

Dr. Judelsohn award ideas for recipient: Sandy D., Carrow Street Pediatrics, specifically Dr. Joe Kita, who gave public response to anti-vaccine article in WNY Family last spring.

Karm worked on and passed out vaccine champion criteria standards. Submit nominees at the January 2014 meeting and vote on it at the Feb, 2014 meeting.

Conference flyer/agenda was reviewed - to be worked on further.

Food for the conference- we will look into having granola bars for snacks/yogurt and have iced tea and lemonade instead of soda.

Renee Neely suggested Commissioner of Health ( Dr. Shah) for speaker for 2015 conference.

At the present time it was decided to keep the conference at Salvatores. If anyone wants to look into other areas to hold the conference check it out and bring it back to the coalition.

Vaccine Safety Coalition

No report available.

They are interested in holding a  film screening event sponsored by Buffalo Pediatric Society and AAP for Invisible Threat, to coincide with Infant and Child Vaccination Month (April 2014); event would include film, speaker (perhaps Dr. Burstein or Dr. Nick Yates) and refreshments.

Karm suggested that Renee make the Finger Lakes coalition aware of the Invisible Threat film when she goes to their meeting.

Vaccine Puzzle – Form was passed out and reviewed. There were a few changes to be made- spelling and punctuation.  Hopefully this will be done for the Jan. 2014 meeting. It was suggested by Karen that we use tear off pads for the puzzle. It was also suggested that we have color and black and white copies on the web site to copy. Lisa also suggested that one of these be made for adolescents.

Resource Document – Karm contacted Traveler’s Health, Jericho Road Family Practice and Great Lakes Community Physicians to see if they would like to be added as community immunization resource but there was no response from them. Karen Menza thinks that she has a document similar to this.

Invisible Threat Film– Beverly contacted someone at NCCC re: showing this but was told it would not fit into the nursing student’s schedule. We will tag along with the Vaccine Safety group when they show the film. Scott suggested school nurses and Beverly thought of the Nurse Practitioner group. It was also suggested it be shown to PA group’s .Karen Menza suggested that we ask at the conference about people interested in viewing the film.
