Majority Leader Lorigo invites Amazon CEO to consider Erie County for company’s second headquarters

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo is asking Amazon to consider Erie County for its second North American headquarters. Majority Leader Lorigo took steps Thursday to move Erie County forward in the process after Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the company is looking to develop a $5 billion headquarters, and has actively asked local governments to apply and show interest.

“Amazon should strongly consider looking at Erie County for its second headquarters, dubbed HQ2, and I am urging all local business development agencies to work together in this effort. We have a lot to offer a great company like Amazon and should be on the forefront of this great opportunity. The economic impact would be tremendous, with an estimated 50,000 jobs being created. Amazon stated in its announcement they want a community that ‘thinks big,’ and that is exactly what we are doing. I have sent a letter to CEO Jeff Bezos, inviting him to tour Erie County and see firsthand what we have to offer,” said Majority Leader Lorigo.

Majority Leader Lorigo has submitted a resolution for today’s session in favor of competing in the company’s Request for Proposal (RFP) process to be considered for Amazon’s HQ2. He is also sending a letter to CEO Bezos.

As Chairman of the Legislature’s Economic Development Committee and member of the Erie County Industrial Development Agency, Majority Leader Lorigo has asked for all invested parties to support the request to bring Amazon’s HQ2 to Erie County.

“Amazon is already opening a warehouse in Lancaster and bringing 500 new jobs there. The company clearly thinks we are a viable location for their business operations and building its second headquarters here would be a great partnership,” said Majority Leader Lorigo.
