Majority Leader Lorigo statement on ‘Pawn Shop Law’

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo was pleased to learn that the County Executive signed the Legislature’s “Pawn Shop Law” today, completing the process to enact the legislation. The law, cosponsored by Majority Leader Lorigo, was approved unanimously at the Dec. 17 Legislative session.  Its goal is to aid law enforcement in their efforts to recover stolen goods sold to second-hand dealers.

“Members of the Legislature, law enforcement and business community worked extremely hard to craft the language of this law to help victims of theft, while also respecting private business enterprise. I am happy that police agencies will now have more tools to locate and recover stolen items before they are melted down or sold.  Hopefully this law will go a long way in curbing the illegal sale and purchase of stolen property,” said Majority Leader Lorigo.
