Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo wants to remind residents in his district that emergency funds are still available from Erie County for both mortgage/rent relief and childcare assistance.

Erie County is designating part of its CARES Act funding to help support local parents and care givers. The county is setting aside up to $4 million for direct support to childcare providers. $10 million will go into expanding the childcare subsidy to include families earning up to 85 percent of the New York State median income.

The Live Well Erie Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program will provide a grant of up to $1,500 per month to cover the monthly rent or mortgage, with a maximum of $3,500 per household. The rent subsidy will be paid directly to the tenant’s landlord and the mortgage subsidy will be paid directly to the mortgage holder. The funding will cover up to five months of rent or mortgage for eligible applicants.

Legislator Lorigo said“Balancing things such as paying for child care and affording monthly bills is a challenge for many people right now. This funding is available to help ease the burden and get families throughout Erie County back on their feet. I encourage anyone who may be in need to submit an application as soon as possible.”

Childcare funding will be available to applicants through December 30th. Click here for more information on how to apply.
