Buffalo, NY- Erie County Legislator Thomas A. Loughran presented lifelong Amherst resident Mike Flynn with the Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month Award at the regular session of the Legislature held on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

The Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month Award was created to recognize outstanding members of the community, and the latest member of this distinguished group is Edward Michael Flynn.

“Mike has dedicated his life to serving the community.  He’s been a strong advocate for the poor and disadvantaged in Erie County.  I am honored to present him with the Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month Award in recognition of his dedication to our community throughout the years,” stated Legislator Tom Loughran.

Mike Flynn is a Past President, former “Irishman of the Year” and the Co-Founder of the Amherst Gaelic League, which has raised funds for the Belfast Summer Relief Program since 1971.  The money raised provides transportation for Catholic and Non-Catholic grammar school children from Northern Ireland to the United States.  The children spend six weeks with Western New York families, to promote understanding and the American way of life.
